I enjoy helping children to open their minds to creativity. As I share my story of my Elementary School Years when I was called “Big Bertha” and “Tank”…I try to help the children understand that even though those names hurt, we can learn to redirect that hurt into something positive….using….CREATIVITY. During this time of my life, I started writing poems, reading and drawing. Creativity helped me to grow from an “ugly fat worm” into a time of transformation…until I was able to finally emerge as an Author (in 2014) which I like to compare to a “Butterfly” in the stages of the life of a butterfly.
We as humans need time to become who we will be as adults through many stages without being critical and upset in who we are in the process. It is important that during this process we need to learn to give each other “heart gifts” of respect, kindness and compassion. We need to understand that it is okay to be who we are….and when others hurt our feelings…turn to CREATIVITY to find a new way of expressing the feelings that we have.
We learned that with using creativity we can turn ordinary lines and shapes into pictures.
Using my Grandfather’s mail carrier hat, we imagined it to be an Adventure hat….and had fun “catching butterflies” with a homemade “catch a butterfly game”….
NOTE: You can find the instructions on how to make your own “Catch A Butterfly” game on the Kidz Connection tab on this website.
We had conversations about the use of electronics vs talking with each other… and the importance of “Heart Gifts”, Legacy Lessons” and using CREATIVITY to get through difficult times in our lives. I also was able to share how I came to write my book, “Butterfly Hugs”.
It was a fun day!
